This is a site I found on Netscape's "What's New" feature. It's a site about an upcoming comic book by Greg Capullo, the artist who drew Spawn. I have mixed feelings about this site. Although the content is okay, I was disappointed with the visu al attractiveness of the site. Some of the graphics are excellent, while others largely lack substance.

The form is certainly most simplistic. The background is black for all of the pages on the site, and the writing is mostly white. The links are neon green, which is nice since it differs from the usual blue links. The Vlinks are red, providi ng contrast on otherwise plain pages. I must credit some of the graphics on these pages, as some of them are simply extraordinary. The first graphic for example is that of a monster whose eyes are truly glowing. Another amazing graphic is the cover of the comic. All of the other ones lack substance, a large disappointment especially in the artwork section. On the flip side, it certainly was a blessing for those of us with slow connections. For example, the character sketches were a good idea to just have in pencil, as it added texture to the pages and they were still fast to download. On certain pages, there were no graphics at all which certainly took away from the visual experience.0

The link buttons on the first page were pretty unimaginative: black letters on red squares. I guess I should give credit for the white shadow behind the boxes, I guess that’s better than simple boxes. He did have the 6 main links nicely organized on the first page, so that everything was accessible without the use of the scrollbar.

The sound clip was pretty cheesy and there were no Java applets to catch my attention. I guess that’s better than having to look at blink tags, but I like looking at a page and saying: "Wow, now that’s amazing!"

Content was actually pretty good. I don’t read comic books, but after reading the character sketches, it made me want to read it. Perhaps in another life when I have some more time! The interview was pretty good as well, with a simple but ef fective layout. The questions in red, the answers in white, and some larger green quotes attracted my attention and made the interview interesting to read.

In conclusion, the site sucks. I don’t think I’ll be visiting it again, nor will I be buying the comic book. It almost grabbed my attention and then left me hanging. Perhaps someone who reads Spawn or other comics might be more interested in the site, but for my interests, I didn’t even find anything worth borrowing for my site!
